Street Angels’ Mobile Catering Unit

Holy Fools is delighted to announce that the Street Angels‘ Mobile Catering Unit (MCU) is up and running and making life much easier for the Street Angels teams to set-up and run the BBQ Outreach in Melba Park. The MCU has recently had it’s sign-writing finished by Yarra Valley Signs, only a week or so after being commissioned.

From being a donated holiday trailer to a functional catering trailer, the MCU was rebuilt and painted, before being tested with great success. Utilising a small grant from the Bendigo Bank in Lilydale we were able to modify the trailer, replacing ball sockets and the electrical system. The trailer’s maiden voyage was a trip to the Coldstream tip to dispose of the waste.

The MCU is a small box trailer that contains all that is needed for the Street Angels team to run the outreach meals. This includes;

  • 1 x 3m x 3m Marquee
  • 1 x BBQ
  • 1 x Gas Cyclinder
  • 2 x Tables
  • 12 x Chairs
  • 6 x Tarps
  • 1 x Box of Condiments, Napkins etc
  • 1 x Box of Assorted Clothing
  • First Aid Kit
  • Fire Extinguisher
  • Fire Blanket
  • 3 x Backpack Beds

With the final sign writing being completed, the trailer has been in use for the past month making life easier for setting up the BBQ and packing up the gear after we’re through. We no longer have to play tetris with the gear to stow it in the Holy Fools Commodore!

The MCU is going to play a large part of the Street Angels Outreach in 2015 being utilised for the Yarra Junction Street Angels BBQ commencing early 2015 and other sites planned for next year to encounter those experiencing homelessness and other issues such as addictions or poverty.
